#SchoolBoardAppreciation Week begins Sunday across the Volunteer State! We'll visit with #JMCSS Board chairman James "Pete" Johnson
This week, we’ll visit with newly retired South Side High School principal Anita Tucker to reflect on her time in the district as a student-athlete, teacher, and administrator. We’ll also find out what the future holds for South Side as Dr. Shari Baldwin takes over after serving as assistant principal for several years. Mrs. Tucker has been associated with the school for 41 years: as a student at the junior high and the high school; as a teacher at the junior high and later as a teacher and coach at the high school. For the past 13 years, however, Anita has been the head principal. She succeeded Jimmy Arnold, who led in that position from 1993-2011.
School Board Appreciation Week was recently celebrated in the state of Tennessee. So it is a great time to focus on the crucial role an elected school board plays in our communities and schools.
Harvey Walden is one of 9 JMCSS Board members who voluntarily tackle the enormous job of governing our school districts. Their actions and decisions impact the present and future of Madison County students, school employees, and families.
Madison Academic has earned a string of district and region championships in girls' soccer, boys' and girls' golf, and cross country. We're visiting with Mustangs soccer coach Jeremy Young and three outstanding students - Mary Kinsley Nye, Nora Manley, and Chad Joyner - to discuss athletic success at MAHS (and theatre).
