The City of Jackson, TN’s Recreation and Parks Department will host Human Trafficking Awareness: A Teen and Parent Workshop at Westwood Recreation Center.

The workshop will take place on July 28 at 4:00 p.m. and is open to the public. The workshop will feature keynote speakers, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Rick Stout, Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network representative Lindsey Carr, and Scarlet Rope Project Executive Director Julanne Stone.

“Most people believe human trafficking is a ‘big city problem, however, I-40 is a major corridor that runs through Jackson and brings human trafficking to our back door,” said JRPD Community Engagement Director, Christi David. “The more education we can provide, the greater impact we can have on prevention.”

According to the TBI, a child is bought or sold for sex every 2 minutes in the United States. The focus of this workshop is to provide information to both parents and their teens about human trafficking and how predators use various tools, including social media, to lure teens into dangerous situations.

Participants must register by clicking the “Public Event Registration” button at http://parks.jacksontn.gov.
