A Winter Storm Watch will go into effect Tuesday night through Thursday afternoon for the Mid-South, according to the National Weather Service in Memphis. A wind chill advisory is in effect until 12 p.m. Tuesday.

In West Tennessee, the affected counties will include Benton, Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Dyer, Fayette, Gibson, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Henry, Lake, Lauderdale, Madison, McNairy, Obion, Shelby, Tipton and Weakley.

NWS said travel could be very difficult to impossible and it is strongly discouraged. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. The cold wind chills below zero could result in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken. Prolonged exposure could cause damage to exposed skin in 30 minutes or less. The cold air will also impact young livestock and pets.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.

The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.
