A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect now through 12 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, for the Mid-South, according to the National Weather Service in Memphis.

In West Tennessee, the affected counties will include Benton, Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Dyer, Fayette, Gibson, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Henry, Lake, Lauderdale, Madison, McNairy, Obion, Shelby, Tipton and Weakley.

NWS said heavy mixed precipitation will be possible. Significant accumulations may occur across the Mid-South. Total snow and sleet accumulations will range 5 to 8 inches with ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch. Gusty northerly winds will cause blowing snow which will reduce visibilities further.

NWS said travel could be very difficult to impossible and it is strongly discouraged. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. The cold wind chills as low as 5 degrees below zero could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Prolonged exposure could cause damage to exposed skin in 30 minutes or less. The cold air will also impact young livestock and pets.

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
