There are over 8,135 new cases of the novel coronavirus in Tennessee as the total number of COVID-19 deaths surpasses 5,000, according to Monday’s data from the Tennessee Department of Health.
As of 2 p.m. Monday, there are 408,730 confirmed cases of COVID-19, which is 8,136 additional cases since Sunday afternoon’s report. The death toll has risen by 66 additional deaths to 5,009.
There have been 362,818 recoveries or inactive cases. The department said it defines recoveries as people who have been confirmed to be asymptomatic by their local or regional health department and have completed their required isolation period or are at least 21 days beyond the first test confirming their illness.
A total of 2,529 people with COVID-19 are currently hospitalized, which is an increase of 23 hospitalizations.
A total of 4,698,459 tests have been taken, which is 42,198 more since Sunday’s report.
