Tedford said the numbers of positive cases has tripled in the last two weeks, which is very concerning she said. She also said that her department is continuing to get positive cases after the 10 a.m. release of the COVID-19 cases in the county each day.
The department’s epidemiology staff are still trying to contact some of these individuals, so hospitalization status is unknown at this time. The department is also reaching out to people who had close contact with these cases.
Seven Madison County residents are currently hospitalized. One of those patients is on a ventilator.
The release said 243 Madison County residents have recovered from COVID-19, but Tedford said this only means that the person is only out of their infectious period, it doesn’t mean they have completely healed from any health complications that the novel coronavirus might have caused.
According to Amy Garner, West Tennessee Healthcare Chief Compliance & Communications Officer, who was brought to tears as she spoken about the seriousness of COVID-19 and the stress and pressure tit is putting on the staff members, who are tired.
“I’m asking the community to pray for the staff,” Garner said.
Garner said that there are 45 COVID-19 patients, 15 COVID-19 positive patients in ICU and eight COVID-19 positive patients on ventilators.
Dr. Priscilla Sioson-Aherrera, who is an infectious disease doctor and medical director of the COVID-19 steering team, said everyone has been overwhelmed and that the community needs to know that this is a very serious problem.
