Hub City Interview: Caitlin Roach

In this episode of "Hub City Now" host Tyrone Tony Reed Jr. interviewed Caitlin Roach, marketing manager of LIFELINE Blood Services.

Roach spoke about where she's from, how she became marketing manager and about LIFELINE Blood Services.

The need for blood donors is very serious because the pandemic has greatly impacted the organization in ways that are having some major consequences, Roach said.

LIFELINE Blood Services currently has mobile units go out to 20 different counties. They serve all of West Tennessee except for Shelby and Tipton and across the river for Houston and Humphreys County. The organization gives blood products to 17 hospitals in 14 air ambulance service areas. In those counties, it is the sole provider of blood.

The April schedule for LIFELINE Blood Services was shared and questions were answered about who can and can't give blood.

LIFELINE is in dire, dire need of donors. Its numbers are down in ways people who have worked there for decades have never seen. If there is anything you can do that goes beyond what you normally do for them, please let them know. They need new donors and lapsed donors to come save lives!

Hub City Now: Interview with Kerri Lee Alexander

In this episode of "Hub City Now" host Tyrone Tony Reed Jr. interviewed Kerri Lee Alexander about the legendary Bessie Coleman, the first African American woman and the first Native American to hold a pilot license.

As the month of November closes out, I wanted to highlight three of its monthly observances: National Native American Heritage Month, National Inspirational Role Models Month and Aviation History Month and Bessie Coleman fit into all three observances.

After coming across a wonderful article on Coleman by Alexander for the National Women's History Museum, I reached out to Alexander to be a guest on the show. Alexander also fits the National Inspirational Role Models Month observance.

Alexander is a Ph.D. student in U.S. History at Howard University. She also serves as a Teaching Assistant for the History Department and Howard’s inaugural Graduate Student Mentor for the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship, in partnership with The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Kerri was also the 2018-2020 Education and Public History Fellow at the National Women’s History Museum where she curated content for the museum’s online platform and assisted in the creation of public programming focused on the contributions of American women. Kerri’s research has been circulated widely, including her digital exhibit on Sojourner Truth that was featured on the homepage of Google.com to kick off Black History Month last year. Kerri holds a Bachelor of Science in Arts Administration (Nonprofit Management) from Wagner College, and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Princeton Theological Seminary.
