Lifeline Blood Services has announced an added bloodmobile drive location for today, Tuesday, June 2, at Lowe’s South Jackson, located at 2071 S.Highland Ave., Jackson, Tenn. from 12:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.

According to a news release from Lifeline,

LIFELINE Blood Services is experiencing blood supply levels so low that it can be classified as an emergency.   Currently, there is no type O positive blood.  Supplies of O negative, A positive, A negative, B positive and B negative are also at levels low enough to classify as urgent. If people do not give blood, it will not be available for the sick and injured.

In West Tennessee, 500 units of blood are needed each week for our friends, family and loved who need it.  The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a terrible toll on the blood supply locally and across the nation.  “LIFELINE has provided blood for two patients recently on Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) which is frequently associated with bleeding and coagulopathy complications, which may lead to the need for transfusion of multiple blood products,” said Gina Humphreys, Director of Technical Services for LIFELINE Blood Services.   “We have reached out to other blood centers for help, but they cannot help us. They are struggling to meet their own needs. Nationally, rioting has caused fears of trauma that could result in blood usage,” said Gina Humphreys, Director of Technical Services for LIFELINE Blood Services.

Tonya Johnson, LIFELINE’s Director of Community Services, expressed her concerns. “The condition of the blood supply may be the worst I have seen in over 30 years and if people do not donate blood, lives in our community will be in danger.”  LIFELINE Blood Services provides blood to patients in 19 hospitals and 13 Air Evac helicopters. “We have the answer and there is something we can do to fix this,” said Cherie Parker, Public Relations Coordinator for LIFELINE.  “Please donate blood as soon as possible,” she said.  “We have nowhere else to go and no one else to ask besides our own community.  We are begging you to give blood and if you cannot give blood, tell someone else to give; lives depend on it,” she added.
