The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department was notified Friday of the first confirmed COVID-19 death in Madison County, according to a news release from the department. The patient died Thursday, April 16, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Madison County.

“The patient had been hospitalized since they tested positive,” said Kim Tedford, executive director of the health department. “The patient had been on a ventilator, was very sick and had pre-existing conditions.”

The patient tested positive around the first of April, Tedford said.

Tedford said there were a total of 93 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Madison County as of Friday morning.

The most recent cases include:

  • a 55-year-old male (hospitalization unknown)
  • a 28-year-old female (hospitalization unknown)
