Infant Among Nearly 300 COVID-19 Confirmed Cases in Davidson County

A baby has been reported as one of the nearly 300 individuals that tested positive in Davidson County for the novel coronavirus, according to the Metro Public Health Department.

Metro Public Health Department officials announced Thursday a total of 293 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nashville/Davidson County, which is an increase of 36 cases in the past 24 hours.

The youngest person with COVID-19 in that area is a two-month-old and the oldest is 94 years old.

Officials reported that out of the confirmed cases, one patient, a 73-year-old man, was reported to have died from complications due to COVID-19 Wednesday. Twelve remain hospitalized, while 52 people have recovered from the virus. The remaining 228 cases are self-isolating at home and have mild and manageable symptoms.

In Madison County, as of 10 a.m. Thursday, there were only two confirmed cases of COVID-19, with one person, a 23-year-old woman, self-isolating at home, while a 77-year-old woman, remained hospitalized at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

The Tennessee Department of Health has reported there are currently 784 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 53 hospitalizations across the state and three fatalities.

NewsChannel 5, which is keeping an independent count of cases in the state by using information from both the TN Department of Health and local health agencies, reported there are actually 953 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state.

Health officials remind everyone to take steps to stop the spread of germs like COVID-19. These include:

  • Practice social distancing as defined by the CDC (6 feet apart). Do not gather in groups larger than 10.
  • Stay at home, unless leaving your home is absolutely necessary because you have medical needs or are an essential worker.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
  • Don’t touch the T-zone of your face: your eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Stay away from others in your home if you are sick.
