NWS: Wind Advisory in Effect Until 1 A.M. Tuesday for the Mid-South; Strong Storm System to Impact Region

There will be numerous weather hazards Monday for the Mid-South, according to the National Weather Service in Memphis.

  • Strong winds –with sustained wind speeds up to 40 miles per hour with gusts in excess of 55 miles per hour. A High Wind Warning will go into effect this afternoon for Pemiscot, Dunklin, Lake, and Mississippi (AR) Counties due to expected wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour.
  • Severe weather –  there is a Marginal and Slight Risk for severe weather in place for a majority of the Mid-South.
  • Severe potential will largely depend on how much instability develops, NWS said.
  • If a severe storm does occur, the greatest threat will be damaging winds.
  • Heavy rainfall –  There is a Slight Risk for Excessive Rainfall is in effect for the majority of the Mid-South today. Storm totals continue to trend downwards, with 1-2 inches expected through midday Tuesday.
