The Jackson Symphony has reached an extraordinary milestone, securing the designation of a Major Cultural Institution (MCI) by the Tennessee Arts Commission. This recognition is reserved for arts organizations that exemplify the highest level of quality in programming and administration. It highlights the Symphony’s remarkable growth and commitment to enriching the cultural landscape of Tennessee.

This designation was achieved after the Symphony sustained an annual operating revenue exceeding $1 million for three consecutive years, a testament to its robust financial health and operational excellence.

“Our financial growth over the past five years has been phenomenal,” said Sherry Freeman, Executive Director of The Jackson Symphony. “Reaching this milestone is a reflection of our dedicated team and the unwavering support from our community.”

The MCI status not only honors the Symphony’s historical achievements but also positions it uniquely between Memphis and Nashville as the sole arts organization to earn this distinction. This highlights the Symphony’s significant role in promoting cultural vitality and economic development in the region.

Support from the Tennessee Arts Commission will provide essential operating funds, enabling The Jackson Symphony to continue its year-round arts programming.

“The additional funding this designation open up allows us to enhance our offerings and reach more people in West Tennessee with the transformative power of music,” Freeman noted. “We are incredibly excited for the future.”
