BROWNSVILLE — Visit Brownsville, the destination marketing organization (DMO) for Brownsville and Haywood County Tennessee, is pleased to announce the addition of Ross Houghton to its team. The goal of this grant-funded marketing position is to plan and promote continued growth of Brownsville, Stanton and Haywood County’s tourism industry.

“Haywood County has so much to offer and what an honor it is to be chosen to serve my community through tourism,” says Houghton. “I can’t imagine anything better than inviting guests to visit and enjoy our authentic Southern hospitality and small town charms.”

Originally from Bulgaria, Houghton has lived most of his life in Haywood County and considers it his hometown. He comes to the position with experience in sales and marketing and is well traveled. Since 2019 Houghton has served as an ambassador for Up With People, an international educational program that encourages young people to become global citizens and make a positive impact in their communities. He has visited 14 states and 25 countries during that time.  Most recently, Houghton graduated with honors from Jackson State Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration.

“I am excited to have Ross join the Visit Brownsville team,” says Visit Brownsville Director Sonia Outlaw-Clark. “He brings a fresh perspective plus a wealth of international experience that will be very helpful as we grow our tourism efforts.”

In 2022, the economic impact of tourism in Brownsville and Haywood County was over $19 million.  Through the new position, Houghton hopes to implement marketing strategies that will result in the expansion of this sector of the County’s economy. He will also be instrumental in working closely with local and state tourism partners to encourage cross-promotion of tourism attributes that will strengthen the county’s position as a West Tennessee destination.
