According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, a freeze warning will go into effect from 1 a.m. until 9 a.m. Tuesday. Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 degrees are expected.
The warning will affect portions of East Arkansas, Southeast Missouri and West Tennessee.
Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, and other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Affected areas in West Tennessee include the following counties: Dyer, Gibson, Carroll, Benton, Lauderdale, Tipton, Haywood, Crockett, Madison, Chester, Henderson, Decatur, Fayette, Hardeman, McNairy and Hardin
NWS said you should take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above- ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
