Jackson Police will host a fundraiser May 7th to help support Jackson Police Officer, Joseph Shephard, who was recently diagnosed with a mass in his brain, according to a Monday afternoon news release.

Officer Shephard will undergo major brain surgery at Vanderbilt Hospital to remove a 3.6 cm cystic tumor.  The surgery is expected to take ten plus hours.  Due to the location of the mass, there are significant risks surgical risks such as difficulty walking and even blindness.  Recovery is expected to be at least two months with extensive rehabilitation and therapy.

Officer Shephard and his family are active members of Englewood Baptist Church.  Officer Shephard, a native of Jackson, is also a health enthusiast who spends a lot of time doing Crossfit and running 5K events.  He and his wife have two beautiful daughters.  His wife will be his primary care giver during his extensive recovery period.

One can only imagine the shock and overwhelming concerns this young family is experiencing.  The Jackson Police Department wants to help alleviate some of the financial stress by hosting a fundraiser.

The fundraiser will be May 7th, 2021 at 191 Auditorium Drive.  Pre-orders for Pork Loins and BBQ Bologna can be made by contacting Paula Henning (phenning@jacksontn.gov) or Jennifer Knolton (jknolton@jacksontn.gov) or by calling 731-425-8400.  Pre-orders should be picked up between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
