Ms. Ramonica S. Dorsey, a veteran administrator and 1992 Jackson Central-Merry graduate, has been named high school principal of the JCM 6-12 campus, according to a Friday afternoon news release from the Jackson-Madison County School System. Superintendent Dr. Marlon King made the announcement on Friday.

“It was important for our leadership team to find a candidate with both professional experience, effective school leadership, and historical context of the JCM campus and East Jackson community. Principal Dorsey possesses all of those touchstones,” King said.

Dorsey will be joining the ranks of our high school principals, where she adds diversity to the team as an African American female principal. Dorsey’s assignment aligns closely with the System’s belief statements around leveraging diversity amongst staff and students.

“There is a deep sense of pride that resides inside every JCM graduate because of the learning and experiences that took place on this campus. I am honored to pass down that same sense of belonging and high expectation to the next generation of Cougar graduates,” Dorsey said.

Dorsey has a proven record of improving outcomes for students while providing a safe and orderly environment. While serving as principal, she has led Andrew Jackson to becoming and maintaining a Level 4 or Level 5 school over a seven year span. Dorsey is the daughter of Ms. Pamela Springfield who graduated from Jackson Central-Merry High in 1972; a graduate of Lane College (1975), where she currently serves as secretary on the Board of Trustees. Dorsey has one daughter, Morgan Dorsey, who is also a JMCSS graduate. She attended Madison Academic High School and graduated in 2013. After graduation, she obtained a B.S. degree from Tennessee State University in 2017 and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Union University in 2019. She is currently a nurse at West Tennessee Healthcare.

Currently pursuing her doctoral degree from the University of Memphis in Leadership and Policy Studies, Dorsey earned her B.S degree in Elementary Education from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA. She earned a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of New Orleans and received her Educational Specialist degree Ed.S from Freed-Hardeman University.

Dorsey is a member of Gamma Alpha Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated and a longtime member of St. Paul C.M.E. Church.
