Madison Academic High School will open the school year as one of Tennessee’s top schools, according to a Wednesday afternoon news release from the Jackson Madison County Schools System. U.S. News & World Report’s Best High School rankings have been released and Madison Academic is ranked 15th statewide in the U.S. News Best High School rankings for 2020. “We are very pleased to be ranked as one of the Best High Schools in the U.S. and Tennessee and we’re hoping to improve upon that each and every year,” said Chad Guthrie, principal at Madison Academic.

The U.S. News & World Report’s Best High School rankings take a number of metrics into account to determine where schools rank nationally and statewide. College readiness, graduation rate, and math and reading performance are just a few of the factors used to determine rankings. Madison Academic’s scorecard tally of 93.72 is the highest score for all public schools in West Tennessee; including the Memphis area.

“I want to personally thank all of our staff and students who work very hard each and every day. None of these accolades are possible if not for their hard work and dedication,” Guthrie said. Madison Academic has developed a reputation of winning in all facets of the high school experience. Madison’s Academic Decathlon team has earned state titles 17 years in a row while the Madison boys basketball team secured a district title and a spot in the 2020 Class A Sectional. “I also want to thank our parents for their support and entrusting their children to us to prepare them for college and beyond,” Guthrie said.

“Leadership is a requirement for winning and today’s announcement is a clear example of what we mean when we say ‘winning for the district’,” said JMCSS Superintendent Dr. Marlon King. “We are grateful for the opportunities Mr. Guthrie and his team are providing for students at Madison. Throughout the district, we are developing tomorrow’s leaders,” King said.
