Health Department Confirms Additional COVID-19 Death, 50 New Cases, 2,111 Cumulative Cases in Madison County

The Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department confirms a 79-year-old male died Aug. 25 due to complications from COVID-19, according to Director Kim Tedford. There are now 38 COVID-19 related deaths in Madison County.

The health department received positive test results for 50 more cases of COVID-19. We now have 2,111 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Madison County.

The newest confirmed cases include 18 males, 32 females, and range from ages 2 to 93.

The department’s epidemiology staff are reaching out to these individuals and people who had close contact with these cases.

Twenty-two Madison County residents are currently hospitalized. Two of those patients are on a ventilator.

The mask mandate, which was scheduled to end this weekend, will be extended for two weeks, Tedford said.

Amy Garner, West Tennessee Healthcare Chief Compliance & Communications Officer, said there are 108 COVID-19 patients at Jackson Madison County General Hospital, with 37 in ICU and 23 on ventilators.
