The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a heat advisory which will remain in effect from noon until 7 p.m. Thursday for the Mid-South, according to an urgent weather message from NWS.
For the first Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 110 degrees. For the second heat advisory, heat index values up to 110 degrees are expected.
Portions of North Mississippi, West Tennessee, East Arkansas and Southeast Missouri are all in this heat advisory.
Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur, NWS said.
The highest heat index values are forecast for the Mississippi River Delta Region, generally from Clarksdale, Miss., to Memphis, Tenn. to Caruthersville.
The following are precautionary and preparedness actions you can take:
-Drink plenty of fluids,
-Stay in an air-conditioned room,
– Stay out of the sun, and
– Check up on relatives and neighbors.
Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
NWS also said you should take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.

NWS also said there is a marginal risk for severe thunderstorms on Thursday across much of the Mid-South. Damaging winds would be the main threat. Afternoon heat indices will reach between 105 and 110 degrees Thursday afternoon.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…Friday through Wednesday Afternoon heat indices will reach between 105 and 110 degrees through the weekend and into the beginning to the upcoming week.
