There are over 1,400 new cases of the novel coronavirus in Tennessee, according to Friday’s data from the Tennessee Department of Health.

As of 2 p.m. Friday, there are 39,444 confirmed cases of COVID-19, which is 1,410 additional cases since Thursday afternoon’s report. The death toll has risen to 577.

There have been 24,693 recoveries, 587 more since Wednesday. The department said it defines recoveries as people who have been confirmed to be asymptomatic by their local or regional health department and have completed their required isolation period or are at least 21 days beyond the first test confirming their illness.

A total of 2,498 people with COVID-19 have been hospitalized, but the department noted that while the number indicates the number of patients that were ever hospitalized during their illness, it does not indicate the number of patients currently hospitalized.

A total of 741,737 tests have been taken, which is 14,469 more since Thursday’s report.
