Freed-Hardeman University President David Shannon has announced plans for a full, traditional fall semester with an adjusted schedule in light of COVID-19. Shannon said, “We can’t wait to welcome new students and reunite with returning students on campus in August. Our faculty, staff, administration and COVID-19 Task Force have been working steadily on a plan for us to deliver the traditional on-campus FHU experience that our students love and value.”

Welcome Home is FHU’s annual move-in day for new students. For fall 2020, first-time students will arrive over the course of two days, and returning students will arrive during three consecutive days — stretching the process over five days. A drive-through registration and check-in process also will provide maximum safety for students and parents as they arrive on campus. Vice President for Student Services Wayne Scott commented, “Being located in a small, rural community away from areas that have been more impacted by COVID-19 is a great blessing. Throughout our history, we have enjoyed a safe environment at FHU, and we are taking precautions for our students and parents as they arrive this fall. Additionally, we are working on plans to keep our students, faculty, and staff protected throughout the semester.”

FHU’s fall semester will begin Monday, August 10, with the annual Tolling of the Bell ceremony. It will conclude Friday, November 20, prior to what is typically a week break for Thanksgiving. The fall 2020 semester will have no holidays or breaks, in order to conclude before the anticipated season when some experts agree there could be another COVID-19 outbreak. Commencement is scheduled for Saturday, November 21.

The mission of Freed-Hardeman University is to help students develop their God-given talents for His glory by empowering them with an education that integrates Christian faith, scholarship and service. With locations in Henderson, Memphis and Dickson, FHU offers bachelor’s, master’s, specialist’s and doctoral degrees.
