Lane College still pans to hold its commencement in July, according to a message from the college’s president posted on Facebook Monday. The college also plans to hold a virtual honors convocation in May.
President Logan Hampton said the following about graduating seniors commencement exercises in a letter posted to the college’s Facebook page:
Scholars,
As we approach the final few days of this unprecedented spring 2020 semester, I want to encourage you to finish strong. I have heard from several of you that you like the online instruction and others have reported challenges. I ask you to continue to be patient, prayerful, flexible and vigilant.
Before I go any further, let me shout like I am in chapel, CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 2020! We are yet holding July 18, 2020, as our commencement date. As you know, we will listen carefully to the authorities to finalize our plans. Please know, we will host a virtual Honors Convocation on Wednesday, May 6. Look for the announcement soon.
Our future depends on each of us continuing to shelter in place, wash our hands, keep 6 feet away from one another (aka, social distancing) and follow all the recommendations of the authorities so that we can flatten the curve and hopefully eliminate the threat of COVID-19.
May God build a hedge of protection all around you and prosper you as only God can!
Grace, mercy and peace,
Logan Hampton
President
