Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department reported four new cases of the novel coronavirus in Madison County Thursday morning, bringing the total of confirmed cases in the county to 89.
Kim Tedford, the executive director of the health department, made the announcement during a media briefing.
Tedford said the department was contacted Thursday night about one of the positive patients and learned of the other three Thursday morning.
The newest patients include:
- a 51-year-old female (not hospitalized)
- a 45-year-old female (unknown hospitalization)
- a 19-year-old female (unknown hospitalization)
- a 60-year-old female (not hospitalized)
A news release from the department said epidemiology staff are still trying to reach some of the patients, so hospitalization status is unknown at this time and that the department is reaching out to the people who had contact with these patients.
Tedford said the department has evidence of community spread, with 42 out of Thursday’s reported 85 COVID-19 cases being exposure-related cases in which someone was exposed to COVID-19 at home, work, etc.
Tedford said 17 of Thursday’s reported 85 COVID-19 cases were travel-related, 15 are unknown and 11 have no known exposures.
The department also released the following demographic information about Madison County’s confirmed COVID-19 cases:

Black or African-American: 50 cases, 56 percent
White: 14 cases, 16 percent
Asian: 2 cases, 2 percent
Hispanic: 1 case, 1 percent
Unspecified: 22 cases, 25 percent
GENDER:
Female: 52 cases, 58 percent
Male: 37 cases, 42 percent
HEALTH STATUS:
Recovered: 28 cases, 31 percent
Not Recovered: 21 cases, 24 percent
Better: 15 cases, 17 percent
Unknown: 25 cases, 28 percent
AGE:
0-10: no cases
11-20: 2 case, 2 percent
21-30: 13 cases, 15 percent
31-40: 10 cases, 11 percent
41-50: 19 cases, 21 percent
51-60: 28 cases, 31 percent
61-70: 13 cases, 15 percent
71-80: 4 cases, 5 percent
80+: no cases
