President Donald Trump announced Tuesday afternoon that he is halting funding to the World Health Organization while a review of the organization is being conducted.
Trump made the announcement during the daily Coronavirus Task Force briefing, which was held in the Rose Garden of the White House. He said the review would cover the WHO’s “role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of coronavirus.”
Trump also said the organization opposed his early travel restrictions to China and seemed to be “China-centric” early in the pandemic.
Trump said that the U.S. spends about $500 million a year funding WHO and that the nation has not been treated properly by the organization.
