Nissan is producing protective face shields that will be given to Middle Tennessee healthcare workers who are treating patients with the novel coronavirus, according to NewsChannel 5.
Nissan’s Smyrna Vehicle Assembly Plant and the Decherd Powertrain Assembly Plant are using 3D printers to make the headbands for the masks. Nissan temporarily suspended production of its manufacturing facilities in the U.S. on March 20 to boost containment efforts where possible during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The news station said Nissan expects to make more than 3,000 face shields by April 3. The plants have the capacity to print enough headbands to make at least 1,000 shields per week.
The company said it has deployed enhanced safety and sanitizing measures in the areas where the face shields will be assembled, the news station reported.
