Decatur County Mayor Mike Creasy announced Sunday that an initial report of a county resident with novel coronavirus turned out to be a false positive.
According to the statement released by Creasy, he received a call from the Tennessee Department of Health verifying the initial report on the state’s website of a positive case of COVID-19 in Decatur County was inaccurate.
“Due to an independent lab’s questionable ability to test for COVID-19 resulting in a false positive, and the location of this suspected case, the TDH retested the patient, and the test was negative for COVID-19,” Creasy said in the statement. “At this time, we do not have a positive COVID-19 case in Decatur County.”
Creasy added, “Even though we are incredibly grateful for this news, Decatur County still needs to remain aware of the situation of COVID-19 and take every precaution possible and be mindful of this virus that is sweeping across the state, nation and world.”
“This virus is very contagious, and anyone of any age is very susceptible to contracting the virus,” Creasy said. “Please continue to practice good personal hygiene of washing hands often, practicing social distancing, and doing your part to stop the spread and let us kill this invisible enemy, COVID-19.”
