The U.S. surpassed China and Italy for the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the world Thursday, according to data from the Center of System Science and Engineering from John Hopkins University.
As of 4:37 p.m., the U.S. had 82,404 confirmed cases, while China had 81,782 and Italy had 80,589.
Italy still has the most deaths reported in the world with 8,215. China has reported 3,291 deaths, while the U.S. has reported 1,178.
