A Madison County homebound senior citizen has been confirmed as Madison County’s second positive case of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), according to Kim Tedford, director of the Jackson-Madison County Regional Health Department. The health department was contacted Tuesday night about the case, Tedford said during a Wednesday morning media briefing.

The 77-year-old woman is hospitalized and was admitted Sunday to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, where she was tested for COVID-19.

Tedford said the woman lived alone and had two caregivers, who have been contacted by the health department. Tedford also said that the woman recently had a visit from a family friend.

Tedford also said one of the woman’s family friends, traveling from New Orleans to Michigan,  stopped by the woman’s house in Madison County to see her before continuing on to Michigan.

“This lady (the family friend) is very sick in Michigan, hospitalized and on a ventilator,” Tedford said. “This looks like another travel-related case.”

Tedford urged people to stay home, don’t travel and only go out if it is absolutely necessary.
